The experience is that many pupils have only passive or linguistic knowledge of grammar which is practically useless for communication. Therefore one of the biggest challenges is to achieve active, creative and correct use of grammar. The difference between the concepts of grammar training and grammar teaching is particularly in the action taken in the class. Whilst grammar teaching activities comprise explaining grammar rules and written controlled grammar exercises, grammar teaching includes substitution and transformation drills, grammar practice that involves all four skills and the most important – language use. The session contains tips for practical activities for grammar training approach as well as the examples from the real classes.
